We stayed in one of the safari tents, which comfortably fit a family of five and a dog. The tent has everything you need, though we are seasoned wild campers so it felt luxurious to have a kettle, power and a shower all in the tent! The location is excellent, peaceful but round the corner from cafe and pub. We had a wonderful time and would definitely love to stay again.

Stayed here for 3 nights as 2 mums with 4 kids and we loved it. Tent was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. We played rounders in the field in front of the tent. Cooked our breakfasts and dinners on the fire pit (with some added help from hob and oven in the tent) and just loved being outdoors but having all the comforts of home. The shower was better than mine at home! Followed the advice on 'things to do" also and had a brilliant time crabbing and we rented a beach hut for the day. Lots of fun. Both kids gave the trip 9.5/10.

This place was just perfect for a relax and unwind. Off grid but not, as all facilities for all weather comfortable catered for. Pyefleet was spacious, comfortable and well thought through. I went with a friend but also perfect for families. I will be taking my grandchildren there! Also, a two minute walk from Stark, which was incredible and the cafe, great coffee, great breakfast!

I've stayed on a lot of campsites and Mersea Barns really stands our for a number of reasons. We are a group of 7 adults and 6 chlidren who regularly go away together to catch up. We booked both the Safari tents and it was absolutely perfect for us. The tents are beautifully done - comfortable, well equipped and smartly designed with excellent showers and just enough space to feel cosy without being claustrophobic. The tents are also nicely spaced apart so when anyone in our group wanted a bit of quiet time they could be apart from the rest of us while not being miles away. If you were only hiring one and had neighbours they're sufficiently well spaces to not disturb each other. It's a gorgeous location which the kids really enjoyed exploring, we had lovely weather which doesn't hurt of course but I'd say there's enough space in the tents to have relaxed on the verandah and just inside if it had been chucking it down without feeling on top of each other. We had some lovely evenings round the fire toasting marshmallows and listening to the tawny owls in the trees. I'd also like to mention how lovely our hosts were. Excellent communication, attentive without being in any way intrusive. We requested BBQ equipment and firewood and it was all of a high quality and dropped promptly to our lockers at the end of the field (that storage solution works brilliantly by the way for dropping things off to be collected at leisure!) We'll definitely be going back, lovely spot.

Had a really great stay. The safari tent was fantastic with everything we could possibly need. Everything was spotlessly clean and fresh. There was plenty of space around for games and a fire pit. It was lovely and peaceful, perfect place to relax. Mersea barns had fantastic food and close to the beach. Exceeded all expectations and will happily stay again.

We have stayed at Mersea Barns Glamping many times over the years and we simply love it and why we keep coming back, bringing family and friends to enjoy the experience too! The safari tents are unique and make for a special camping trip with hot running water, underfloor heating, electricity, comfy beds and a well equipped kitchenette - it is glamping at its finest! The tents are modern, clean and make for a great adventure with our three children (3,7,10 years) who particularly like the cabin bed and the little nook underneath to play. The grounds are so spacious, and very safe letting the kids run, roam and play. The camp fire for BBQ dinners and toasting marshmallows is a real treat too. Mersea Island itself has plenty to offer but we find ourselves taking the slow lane, chilling on-site, playing outdoor games and taking a short walk across the field to Mersea Barns for delicious food! The simple joys of unplugging from the reality of life and switching off to spend quality time together and making memories as a family is one of the reasons we love returning (plus it’s only just over an hour to drive, perfect for a short weekend getaway!)
